My name is Dhwani - a motivated public health professional with a Master’s degree in Public Health and over 5 years of project research management experience. Demonstrated expertise in research, data integration, and capacity building services. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a passion for promoting health equity.

Reviewed Article: The British Columbia Atlas of Palliative Care Author: Herx L., Pereira J., Clark R., Bhadresa D., Sanya N., Klinger C., and Moat J.

Main Argument & Findings:

Understanding the current state of palliative care in Canada is an unmet need for the current population. The palliative care ATLAS provides thorough information regarding the access and availability of service provision at regional and provincial levels. Providing an informative and geographical tool based on indicators and domain.

Importance for Youth:

This highlighted how the construction of social determinants of health and inequities are due to larger systems at play. Specifically noting how socioeconomic status, political contexts, social positioning all have influence and can impact how health is inequitably distributed. This framework is essential for my learning and supported my time as a researcher with the Atlas projects. As a researcher recognizing the limitations of the investigation is important to further develop structures, systems and policies for equitable health access. In addition, when understanding how marginalized groups intersect with palliative care access and availability – is exemplified by these conceptual frameworks.

What I Learned:

This level of analysis helped reflect my ability to extract information from reports/policies and apply ethical equitable considerations through a population health perspective. I was able to draw on the interdisciplinary learnings from these core MPH classes regarding the specificity of definitions and evaluations of policy through an ethical lens.
